Interesting Site – The Baby Dictionary – Helps Interpret Kids’ Thoughts

In the works for years, this truly unique site has gone live this week, and it’s already making waves around the interwebs. TheBabyDictionary.com has plenty of fun at Webster’s expense, but in a way that really resonates with parents. It’s fun, sure, but it’s also a great community site.

They define words, best we can tell, in two broad categories:

Goofy words kids say, defined.
They cover a ton of really fun words that kids say. Here are just a few of the crazy kid terms defined:
Lemmanemmo – (n) The 12th through 15th letters in the alphebet song. Alternately pronounced emmemmenno and lemonemmo.
Wakey-Wakey – (n) An unexpected and unacceptable demand to forsake sleep for school.
Ba-Ba – (n) Black sheep. 2. Nippled container filled with milk, formula or juice. 3. (v) Good way to silence junior underlings. 4 (n) High-flying, ear-popping device.

Real world words defined, as they must mean to kids.
The site also covers a bunch of words kids wouldn’t say, but that certainly hold a bearing on their lives. Here are some of the more grown-up terms (though not “adult”) terms they define on the site:
Money – (n) Pretty tokens of unknown purpose. Often found in baby brother’s mouth when he captures and tries to eat them. 2. Thing alleged to when items at the store costs too much.
Styrofoam – (n) Similar to rice cakes and only slightly less edible.
Two – (n) An allegedly terrible age marked by potty training, bottle weaning, and discipline enforced “rules.” 2. The second marker in the disciplinary count up; IE, “Stop pulling her hair or you’re going to the corner! One! Two! Three!” 3. The number of hands, feet, eyes and ears anyone is allowed to have at any given time. 4. An insufficient number of hands.
Tooth Fairy – (n) Mythical villain who promises to steal in under the dark of night, and abscond with my teeth. This so-called fairy may offer a parental pocket change but it’s no fair trade for the trauma of losing teeth, even if one is expected to grow replacements. 2. A terrible, terrible movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

The updates promise to be at a rate of about 3-5 new words defined each day, so if you’re looking for some daily fun, this site is as good as any you’ll find. Check them out and let us know what you think in the comments below.
