Just Another Amazing Autumn at Remlinger Farms, Rain or Shine

This is something of an autumn tradition around our house. We’ve been doing it for years and years, and each year it’s a little bit different, but always just as awesome. This is Remlinger Farms in Carnation, Washington.

We always go opening day. The crowds are light, but it’s just how we kick off our Halloween season. This year, for the first time in 7 or 8 years, the weather did not cooperate. When it’s raining in Seattle, it’s often sunny in Carnation, but his year we just got soaked.

Want a pony ride? Step right up. Time for a steam train ride? We were inclement weather VIPs and it was great.

There’s always so much to do there, but first we’re going to talk about the myriad eats. They have a fresh doughnut stand where you can watch them make them before they put those hot little holes in your hand, but that’s just the beginning.

They also have a pizza shack, a hot dog shed and a burgerama all wafting out amazing scents, tempting and teasing you as you peruse the farm. They also have caramel apples, for the adventurous. By adventurous, I mean the parents, not the kids. Wind them up like that, there’s just no telling.

I’ll keep this one short and just defer to the pics to tell the story, but they have a steam train, a buggy car ride (with the actual cars from the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair!), flying pumpkins, spinning barrels and too many more rides and attractions to even mention.

We have a few favorites from the farm:

– Eric Ode does a bunch of shows each day (the times are posted in front of his theater, right as you go in.) He’s just the best.

We've been fans of Eric Ode for years. If he's not the best, we don't know who is. He's just great.

– The steam train ride is nice because it’s fun, but also allows parents and kiddos to wind down a notch while looking at all the scarecrows, mild animals and even the river.

That look of surprise? Yeah, you can't fake that... Well, Dominic can't, at any rate. He's working on it but his skills aren't quite up to speed.

As you can see, legit steam trains do indeed get steamy. All the more fun, especially considering how rare they are.

– They Hay Jump & Hay Maze are pretty awesome, though most of us brothers have grown out of it. When we were young like baby Max we’d get so lost, it was so fun. We can see over the bales now, but it’s still fun. It’s fun to show him how to get around.

– The restaurant… oh my, the restaurant. Salads, burgers, wraps or Fish n’ Chips for the grown ups, but even better stuff for the kids. If you’re going to go, you should plan on going for the whole day, and if you do, you should plan on eating there. It’s not “ball park” expensive, it’s still normally priced, which is great. Dogs, burgers, chicken fingers, sandwiches, doesn’t matter. Whatever your picky eater wants, it’s here, and it’s oh so tasty.

All New Rides for 2013!

They’re always trying new stuff, but this year saw the replacement of the old ho-hum coaster with a much cooler and longer coaster. Also they added a mini electric train kids can ride and the flying corn ride too. Here are some pictures to really show the experience.

Before you leave, get a pumpkin or thirty. Park out by the hay maze and take a wandering stroll through the stalks. It’s included with your admission, and it’s good walking fun for the whole family. They even have tractor rides around the maze and pumpkin patch areas, so definitely do that.

We’ve made Remlinger Farms our first stop on the Halloween circuit every year since we were little. We’re still little-ish, but this is probably the 7th year we’ve gone out to kick off the season right, and we’ve loved it every time.

This is just plain fun. It's diggers of sorts. Pick up sand, move it, make a pile, knock it over. Just one of the many side diversions at Remlinger Farms.

The petting zoo has lambs, goats, chickens, rabbits, a big fat pig and other animals too. Even has a quarter dispenser so you can feed them yourself.

Pony rides a' plenty all day through the laurel maze. Great fun, even in the rain, and we know because we've done it for years.
