Wanna Go Karting in Idaho? Here’s Your Best Stop

The Karting track is nice because it's not simple, flat pavement like many places, but it has banks and cambers to simulate a full-scale race course.

The Wahooz/Roaring Springs complex has many points of pride, but I’m sure low on the list is the Karting experience, though I don’t know why. It’s easily the best in the state.

There are three tracks to choose from, depending on your height and inclination:

Boise-Karting-Lead-Fun 1 – There’s the “rookie” Go Karts, which are a bit slower, but ideal for kids 8-11. They already know Mario Kart, so why can’t it translate… turns out it translates just fine, save for that pedal to the left… the brake pedal.

First boy came into the pits hot at the end of his race and smashed the car in front of him. The older brother came in equally hot and likewise had no idea how to slow down, so he hammered the cars in front of him with equal vengeance. As hot as they were, no one was hurt. The cars are simply built for this.

2 – On the same small track adults can do Slick Track racing. Most parks strictly forbid burnouts, drifting, fish-tailing and generally having fun. Not this course. Adult-sized drivers can lean in or out of corners, crank on the brake in a turn, or otherwise play a real-life version of The Fast and the Furious as much as they want.

3 – But just across from it is the real Go Kart race. The track is nearly a quarter mile long, split between hairpin turns, lucious straightwaways and even an over/underpass to make the track that much longer.

We went only in a double-car, but even lugging a waifish boy and my monumental ass, we still managed to out-Jedi some of the other racers. What we lacked in pony-power, we made up for in riding smart lines around the track.

You can buy single races, packages, all-day or multi-day passes for the Wahooz/Roarings Springs complex, and the longer you stay, the more fun you have, and the more you can save.

Even kids can race on one of the tracks, and what fun it is.

At the end of the race, as the boys came back into the pits, the guy motioned Brendan to SLOW DOWN, but he didn't know which pedal it was, so he slammed full speed into the empty car in front of him... right behind him, Dominic also didn't know how to stop, so he slammed into Brendan... lesson learned.

This is dad kicking the car sideways on the Slick track. Most Karting centers don't let you drift or anything like that, so it was a rare treat to be allowed to.
