Northern Idaho has a pretty awesome amusement park called Silverwood, which is very convenient from the I-90 corridor, but if you’re already there, you can easily add another day of fun at Triple Play just down the road.
It’s a pretty standard mega family fun center. Having a mega family, I feel uniquely qualified to comment on it. Go Karts, bumper boats, Lazer Tag, an indoor as well as an outdoor mini-golf course, an awfully solid indoor water park, and more.
If you’re only looking to stay a few hours, you can buy individual attractions or small packages but the real way to go is with wristbands good for the entire day. Best value and most fun by far, and “a day” is usually a 12-hour stretch by their hours.
One killer value not to miss is the souvenir softdrink cup. It’s $5.99, but refills are 99-cents ($1.05 with tax.) By the end of the day, you’ll have saved a fortune, and have a cup to take home. They’re even good for multiple days as well as multiple visits, so if you’re planning a second day you just can’t go wrong.
Of course there’s food on-site. I’d call it an expanded snack bar, but the offerings are good and pretty much what you’d expect. Chicken fingers, pizza, the usual. If it’s not what you’re looking for, there’s a KFC in the parking lot (assuming you can stomach the grease,) and just about every sort of corporate restaurant within a five-minute drive down the main drag.
The “other” attractions I mentioned include a free-standing climbing structure with four difficulty levels, a pretty good size arcade with many games giving tickets you can redeem for prizes. Also a kids play structure they can climb up in that’s about twice the size of what you’d find at the best McDonald’s.
Don’t forget to check out the bowling alley upstairs (including duckpin bowling, which is rare in the US,) and the other fun stuff around the place.
My oldest found a token on the floor, popped it in the dinosaur claw game… and won a dinosaur. Not bad for a free token!
Then there’s the mining sluice (miner/panning area.) Water flows down a trough and you can sift for special surprises. You can choose from bags pre-loaded with arrowheads, gems or fossils. We did the fossils and got some pretty neat things like ancient shark teeth and snail shells. Very cool.
Triple Play is located in Hayden, Idaho and is just miles from Silverwood. They have a number of packages that include rooms in the adjoining Holiday Inn (which includes an awesome hot breakfast) and additional discount tickets to Silverwood.
