Where to move after Japan radioactive plume reaches the U.S.?

Nuclear plants meltdown causes radioactive clouds to reach U.S.

The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization picture  below shows how weather patterns might disperse radiation from a continuous source Fukushima Nuclear Power Plants meltdown in Japan.  The far extent of the plume will reach the U.S. West Coast by March 18, 2011.

Japan nuclear cloud reach the U.S. West Coast on 3-18-11.

Where in the U.S. could we consider to be in a “nuclear free zone”?  There are plenty of rural places that are short commutes from urban areas. For instance the sparsely populated areas of Eastern Montana and Western North Dakota are very attractive.   Real estate values have not been affected by the boom and bust cycles in the remainder of the country.

We are currently enjoying an oil boom and jobs go begging for qualified applicants right now.  The overall unemployment rate in Montana was 6.8% last month.  Homes in rural areas are available for sale for what a down payment costs elsewhere.

You have to be willing to drive 30 or 40 miles to do your major shopping. For example if you go out about 38 miles on the I-94 from Miles City you run into all kinds of rural farm type areas. If you have to work in a city just move outside of it and commute to your home or else find remote jobs to set up your role .

My annual land and home property taxes last year were $630 for one acre and a house located in the middle of Terry, Montana.  My place is down wind from any nuclear wind strikes,   But lets be serious there are enough nukes worldwide that just about anywhere is dangerous unless you live in a cave. However, you should be able to build a nice little bunker with the money you saved on housing by moving here.
