$2 Gateway Theater in Federal Way is Awesome

Remember dollar theaters? Remember how that used to be a thing, but they’re all basically gone now? Well apparently not, because Federal Gateway Movies 8 is still doing it, and at just $2 smackers a head.

No matinees, no discounts for old or young, just a flat $2. Are you alive and going in? Then it’s $2 please.

Big, bright screens, amazing sound, comfortable chairs… you know, a movie theater.

The popcorn and drinks are cheaper too, but only by maybe a dollar or two. The large size of drink and popcorn each come with a free refill, and if you’ve got a gaggle in your party (as we do) they’ll give you little bags or trays to share the popcorn around.

You can check their current listings on Fandango and see how current stuff is.

If you’re going to a movie with a family of any size, this is the way to do it. When we saw that terrible Eddie Murphy movie “A Thousand Words” we didn’t even feel ripped off, which at $50 we surely would have. Same deal with “Scary Movie V”, which we caught just last week. For $2 a head, it was a fair deal, though still a terrible, terrible movie… the kids liked it, except the one that slept through it, but what do kids know about the art of cinema?

Here’s the math… we bought five tickets, a large popcorn and drink (which both include one free refill, and when bought together, come with a small candy item,) for a total of $21.50. Downtown that will only buy you two tickets. They also have $1 hotdogs or cups of chili.
